Born February 12, 1808 in a log cabin near Sinking Spring, Kentucky to Thomas Lincoln and the former Nancy Hanks, a son named Abraham. Through his father's family, originally from Hingham, Massachusetts, young Mr. Lincoln was related to Dr. Anita Newcomb McGee, playwright Thornton Wilder (Our Town), actor Hal Holbrook & Katharine Lee Bates ("America the Beautiful"). Through his mother, an illegitimate daughter of a member of the Hanks family, he was related to actors Tom Hanks and, on his mother's side, George Clooney.

Born February 12, 1808 at Mount House, Shrewsbury, England to Robert Waring Darwin and the former Susannah Wedgwood, a son named Charles Robert. His paternal grandfather, Erasmus, a physician, was a co-founder of the Lunar Society, a group of naturalists. His maternal grandfather was the famous potter, Josiah Wedgwood. Through his father, Charles was a descendant of Catherine Carey Knollys, daughter of Mary Boleyn (Anne's sister) and probably illegitimate daughter of King Henry VIII. Through their shared descent from Catherine Knollys (nee Carey), Charles was related to pioneering photographer William Henry Fox Talbot, George Henry Montagu Earl of Sandwich (form whom the sandwich is named), John Baron Wrottesley, President of the Royal Astronomical Society & the Royal Society of London for the Improvement of Natural Knowledge, philosopher Bertrand Russell & Standard Oil founder John D. Rockefeller, Sr.
