Perhaps you know that the Europeans have long used a much more secure system than Americans still do, based on microprocessor-bearing
smart cards, and colloquially called
chip and PIN. Because of the recent massive incidents at stores like Target, most experts now believe that the US will roll out the gear needed to do
chip and PIN by YE2015.
With my technical knowledge, I actually tried to persuade my mutual fund company to do something like this two decades ago, but it went into one ear and out the other!
