Mine was givin to me when i was in the service i could not sit still and my co said i bounce around like tigger the tiger on winney the poo. And it stuck. How about every one else???????????????

Anoree 12-14-2008 11:18 PM

I got mine from an alien race of the long running science fiction novel series "Perry Rhodan". The Anoree there try to allways keep their temper cool, to stay calm in every situation. I'ts kind of like me, so I adopted that name as my Internet Identity.
It's not that common that many others try to use it, so the nickname is almost everywere still free. (I've seen two or three other "Anorees", though.)

laranger 12-14-2008 11:27 PM

Mine is the actual name of a guy I met almost 50 years ago. I never forgot it and have used it as a screen name for a long time now.

eastbill 12-15-2008 12:00 AM

mine is because i am out east.

WhyYou 12-15-2008 12:04 AM

My nickname came to me when I first got online back in 1993 (or '94). It had been "one of THOSE days" so I tried for WhyMe...but it was taken. WhyYou was the first thing I thought of next. At first it was "WHYYOU" (because I was a newbie and had no idea what online shouting was...lol).

My username comes from my first car, a 1973 Mustang Grande (which I still own). oddly I can't find any digital photos of it. It looks pretty much like this one I found on line, same color and all:

CK1 12-15-2008 12:58 AM

Mine has to do with the spelling of my first name. its spelled with both a "C" and a "K" but most commonly spelled with one or the other. so i always had to correct people and tell them "C,K... C,K!" and a friend of mine just gave me the nick name.

Dilbert49 12-15-2008 01:52 AM

Mine was the result of needing to come up with a username and having a Dilbert calendar on my desk, plus my age.

raven_azrael 12-15-2008 04:42 AM

Well, I love dark stuff so, Raven is usually a loner character and Azrael is the angel of Death (It is not after Gargamelīs cat from Smurfs, lol).

mart 12-15-2008 06:12 PM

Mine is my name Martin. I know it isn't very imaginative lol. But everyone i know calls me Mart. Plus it's easy to remember lol.

captnjack 12-15-2008 06:35 PM

I took mine from a Billy Joel tune that I liked back in the 70's.

T-bone Thomas 12-15-2008 07:32 PM

T-bone is the nickname Lia once gave me. I have no idea why she picked that one.;)

DWM222 12-15-2008 07:52 PM

Kinda like WhyYou, back in the early 90's I needed a user name so I used my initials..DWM..& it was taken so I added 2's until it worked (glad it stopped at 3) :)

Geezer 12-16-2008 12:18 AM

My user name

I'm 62 years old and many of my best lady friends are in their 20s and 30s. One time, a girl called me "Geezer" and it stuck. Or, I get "Geez" for short.

I like that song too! There's some interesting info about it here: http://www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=801

"Captain Jack will get you high tonight and take you to your special island. Captain Jack will get you by tonight...just a little push and you'll be smilin."

I could use my favorite Billy Joel song, but "Scenes From An Italian Restaurant" wouldn't make a very good username! :D

captnjack 12-16-2008 09:49 AM

piano man is my favorite Bill Joel song but captnjack works better with my avatar the one eyed Jack of hearts especially since I have a vision problem and have to shut one eye to see properly sometimes.

indyfan 12-16-2008 10:30 AM

My name is Indyfan because I am a fan of the Indianapolis Colts NFL team and the Indy Racing League.

shink1m 12-17-2008 08:52 AM

shink1m is three parts -- the "shin" part, it's an anime thing, "kim" is a college nickname, the "1" is an intarwebz thing

^_^

Some people read it as "shinkim", others say "shink one emm". Either is alright by me.

Texasdrake 12-17-2008 07:48 PM

Originally I gone by the name FIREDRAKE which means fire dragon, but after I use it a short time online everyone and thier dog must have like it cause it was shown as taken whenever I tried using it on other sites..so I end up coming up with TexasDrake cause I'm from Texas and Drake for dragon

Marius 12-27-2008 02:41 AM

Mine is a username I almost think is my name sometimes as I have been using it on another board for years, and it was inspired by the Roman Vampire from the Anne Rice vampire novels.

Also it is the name of one of my favourite characters from the musical Les Miserables.

Yes, also a Captain Jack fan, and obviously Mr William Joel.

YetAnotherDave 12-28-2008 03:53 PM

Well I have a number of online 'handles' but when I started on Alison's forum I wanted something a little bit more personal. I really am called Dave, but logging on there there were at least 2 users with Dave in their name so I decided to become YetAnotherDave as that is precisely what I was. I subsequently use Y A D or YAD as YetAnotherDave too damn long ! :)

It was only when I moved to this site that I googled YetAnotherDave and found that there were LOADS of them out there !!

Longhornbill 12-28-2008 06:06 PM

Mine came from my former avocation: Raising Registered Texas Longhorn Cattle. The handle was given to me in Miles City, Montana, on the final day of the Great American Cattle Drive. Two hundred and forty five Texas Longhorns driven from Fort Worth, Texas to Miles City. Six months! All the cattle made it and gained an average of 145 pounds. Twelve horses did not make it --- Probably more info than you desired.

ugo 12-28-2008 06:14 PM

ugo ? It's only Ugo. Simply. As a Friend.:p

Seriously? It is on your birth certificate as "Missy?" I have heard "Missy" used in negative ways like "come here, Missy, you are in big trouble." But, never, as a person's real name. It is definitely unique!:D

MELISSA is my name but every one calls me MISSY !

wade 01-04-2009 09:47 PM

Mine is my first name. Shocking, I know. :) Years ago I had aliases I used on message boards and chatrooms but I always ended up getting tired of them so now I mostly just use my name or some variation thereof.

Welcome to message board Lady Melissa.:)

Anroe 01-13-2009 03:43 PM

Hi all!

My nickname Anroe is a name of a person from one sci-fi cyberpunk story I write myself :-) and i use this on other forum.
I hope Anoree understand and accept this. ;)

Btw i am from Czech Republic, 34 yo, very poor and very ugly. :p
And I love Danielle, of course.

Jeffrey99 01-13-2009 08:32 PM

I'm not very thoughtful, so mine is my first name and the number of the greatest hockey player to ever play (Wayne Gretzky). It also happens to be the year I graduated. So 99 has been the number I've always used for racing, sports videogames, etc.

I'd like to change it but I'm so used to it on a ton of boards and I'm getting much too old to remember a million different user names for each board.

Plankton 01-14-2009 04:25 AM

Mine is the final name of my band. We had several names before Plankton, but for some reason, that one was my favorite, so I use it from time to time on websites.

METTTAL 01-15-2009 12:07 AM

Mine is just metal, but with 3 Ts (mostly because of the musical genre). I've had it from when I first got AOL back in like 1993 or 94.

tigger 05-20-2009 11:28 PM

You new members let us know how you came up with your username!

dxhound2003 05-21-2009 09:09 PM

Just for fun does anyone here know what a DX hound is?

captnjack 05-21-2009 11:18 PM

I haven't a clue although term sounds familiar. I am guessing something to do with a type of dog breed???

dxhound2003 05-22-2009 12:25 AM

Yes Enigma it has to do with ham radio. I have a long standing interest in short wave listening and amateur radio. DX is the radio abbreviation for long distance and a DX hound is a ham radio operator who specialises in making contact with stations far away or in exotic locations which are rarely on the air.

Your name is sort of connected with the radio hobby as well. There is a group of enthusiasts called Enigma which stands for European Numbers Information Gathering and Monitoring Association which of course was inspired by the Enigma machine. They monitor transmissions of groups of coded numbers which are broadcast on short wave for spies operating abroad. Used to be very common during the Cold War but surprisingly is still used a lot by various governments including the US. Using a system called a one time pad these codes are apparently unbreakable.

As for everything else under the sun there is lots of information on Google about amateur radio, short wave listening, numbers stations etc if anyone is interested.

captnjack 05-22-2009 08:24 AM

It's a good thing we weren't playing jeporady I wasn't even close!

MISSY 05-22-2009 01:02 PM

Tigger should have known that he tinkers with old military radios. he has 3 prc 10s at home from early nom.

WhyYou 05-22-2009 03:49 PM

Topic is User names. If you want to talk about breaking codes, start a new thread.

TheDoctor 05-27-2009 08:43 PM

There are a bazillion doctors, both in real life and fiction. They may be anything from nice to nasty, incluiding cranky, distracted, philosophical, hands-on, and so on... which sort of matches my volatile temper; also they ALL have one thing in common: they are smart at least.
Whoever has actually read my posts must have noticed I have given different signatures, when I remember to include one.

Dr. Dre

Dr_DP 05-28-2009 12:00 AM

I'm currently studying to be a physician, hence the Dr part, and DP are just my initials. Yeah .... pretty original :)

And the DP part looks a little bit confusing... LOL

Dr. Dre

TheDoctor 05-31-2009 09:54 PM

Well, "TheDoctor" was actually my second choice. first was "Lagrange" or "Lagrangian", after Lagrange's math work about some special "neutral" points among gravitational systems, where objects are neither pulled nor pushed. The whole thing matches my usual position about most fundamental matters.

Dr. Bailey

La grange? Wasn't that the name of an old song from ZZ Top?
BTW, are you a real doctor, Dr. Bailey? Just curious.

Vorvadoss 06-06-2009 07:14 AM

Vorvadoss is one of the Outer Gods in the Cthulhu Mythos. I'm a big fan of H.P. Lovecraft's work and the mythos.

the Dutch mountains 06-06-2009 02:03 PM

I'm from the Netherlands.

"The Dutch mountains" is a song about the flood of 1953, and the builing of the dykes to prevent that from ever happening again. Since the Netherlands are pretty much flat, the dykes were since then in jokes refferred to as our only mountains.

I have a previous post in this thread if you are looking for some enlightment. BTW, it is LAGRANGE (no blanks in between), the name of an Italian mathematician from the 18th century. Little to nothing to with the future "Chicken Ranch" or the Blues masters of ZZ Top (huge tangent: love Billy Gibbon's recurring role in FOX's Bones).

Dr. Clooney
