You might be surprised who is related to whom. I spent a decade collecting genealogical info and now have a program that can sort out the connections between anyone in my database usually in just a few seconds (a lot quicker than when I had to do it by hand). All things considered, it is actually amazing just how closely related a lot of people are to each other. I discovered a few years ago that a couple of my childhood friends were actually distant cousins, that a girl I once went out with (thankfully we didn't get too far!) was a long-lost cousin, that my brother's best man was also another missing cousin, and that my Mom's three best friends are all relatives of hers. And while within the past 400 years (or less) we shared the same great-great-&c. grandparents, we'd all stumbled across each other after our various branches of the family had taken long routes around the country.

And about Kirk--I have a Mego repro of him on my bookshelf a few feet away, and my littlest niece has another she loves playing with (along with Spock, Bones, Uhura, Klingon & Zira from Planet of the Apes--oddly, they all seem to like driving around in a Barbie VW Beetle).

I never watched BL, but my mom was a huge fan. That was one of the precious few shows she tried to catch, even though it was on after she normally went to bed. And maybe it was the2d season that was so stilted with BSG--you're absolutely right, the whole black market thing was tough to swallow (that was one that I had in mind when writing my comments). Like a lot of great literature and film, BSG was great at presenting within a microcosm all sorts of scenarios that we deal with in everyday life, but doing so in a way that wasn't offensive, and that could give us pause to think about how we view things, i.e., politics, religion, social mores, &c.

And since it just can't be helped, you mentioned the interaction between Shatner (I don't care what anyone thinks, he's a brilliant actor who makes each and every word count) and Spader, its just a bit o' trivia, but there is actually something of a connection between the two: Gene Roddenberry. The connection between Shatner & Gene is obvious, but Jimmy and Gene were 10th cousins. Cheers--

I'm had my own absences now & again, so no worries--just glad you're back on & caught up. I'm gonna miss BSG, but they did go out on such a good note. And I like a little mystery, a few unanswered existential questions left to the viewer to fill in. It was a really good series beginning to end (well, the 3d season with the stand-alone episodes were a bit stiffer, didn't flow as nicely, but what can you do? Even for stand-alones they weren't bad, if you look at them as snapshots of "days in the life"). That's 2 really good shows down now--BSG & ER, and ER's finale was pretty decent, too. In a way the whole of this past season could be looked at as one extended finale, but the actual close of the show was terrific with Dr. Carter taking Rachel Green under his wing--and I loved that the original actress who played Rachel as a little girl & young teen years ago came back. Now was long as Guiding Light is able to find a new home I'll be happy (what can I say? I've been hooked since around '75 when I heard the name "Spaulding" and looked down at the ball I was bouncing and saw the same name!). I mean, 72 years of continuous story is something, isn't it? ()

As for Sadie, I'm heartbroken. One of the times I stayed away from the board was my FTV membership ran out the beginning of Feb. and I needed to put some distance between me and the reviews (its sounds good to put it like that, I think). But I did read the Sadie reviews, and maybe this summer I'll join again to catch up. Its something worth saving for & something to look forward to. I was already looking at joining Ms D's site this summer when I'm not watching my nieces (they usually spend a month or 2 with their grandparents in Calif.).

Anyway, Leo, great to have you back in the land of the lusting ()

Not a bad finale at all. I'd have to say its one of the better finales, right up there with the finale episode of M*A*S*H.

The meeting of the 5th & 10th Doctors was terrific--thanks big time for giving me a heads up on it. I also checked out part of the 2008 Christmas episode that introduces David Morrissey on YouTube. The video/audio quality aren't great, but look for the one tagged "Doctor Who Christmas Special 2008 - The Next Doctor (Part 1)" which gives the 1st 9 or so minutes of the episode. Looks decent--Morrissey reminds me a bit of what Colin Baker could have been (had JN-T not botched up Dr. ?). And, just for the record, I was in bed by 10 last night, and did the laundry this AM, so I'm not so big on New Year, either, but hope you have a good 'un regardless! Cheers--
