It was 20 years ago today, Sgt. Pepper taught ...no, wait, it was 20 years ago today that the Berlin Wall came down. To the people of Bundesrepublik Deutschland I want to congratulate you on reunification. Decades separated by that scar and what have you to show for it? A strong, vital nation once again. You have set an excellent example for other nations torn by war, families separated by barriers political. Even for those of us in the United States who are still, in many way, trying to heal the rifts that have been there for over 130 years you set a very fine example. My sincerest best wishes for you, Anoree & T-bone Thomas, and all the Deutschlander members & people.

Thank you, George.

It's in deed a day of joy for Germany, Europe and the world. Freedom finally prevailed.
Our re-unification is still an ongoing process, though. We're still working on smoothing out the different conditions in Germany.

This day of joy has a bitter taste to it, too. 71 years ago was Kristallnacht (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kristallnacht), the night when the Nazis began their open raid on the Jews.
We should remember that, too, so it doesn't ever happen again, anywhere.

Thank you Anoree for reminding me of that coincidence. On the same day we are all reminded of what it takes to be brothers, and at the same time how fragile our societies really are, of one man holding his hand so another can climb up & over a wall, and man's inhumanity to man.
