I heard about this on CNN today (http://www.fox8.com/wjw-news-town-manager-porn-star,0,3992129.story?track=rss). Is this town full of right wing crazies or something? I think what they did is totally outrageous and unfair.

It's ridiculous and a bad case of prejudgement. I think the private life of an employee isn't a town government's business at all.
If that town manager's work had suffered from the marriage, maybe it would have been justified, but that apparently didn't happen.

After my own experience at the Detroit Airport (see Travel thread) it doesn't come as a too big surprise to me, though.

But I don't want to start a political morality thread. If I wanted to do that I'd throw in the name Berlusconi, but I don't. ;)

What's wrong with people these days, we constantly someone fired in modern business because of who they marry, or something stupid like that. If someone does something like that in their personal life, or if they drive the company vehicle to a strip club, employers should really question, is this actually going to cause me money. If a plumber has a call to fix the sink at the strip club, he'll go down there in the company vehicle, and fix the sink, and get paid. If he goes down there after work for any reason, he'll get fired. That employer really needs to question, 1) will this cost me any money, and 2) will the people who see his face down there even remember him on duty, when he was there without the company vehicle? If I see the company vehicle there I would assume he is there to fix the sink, WHY WOULD HE GO THERE TO GET A BLOWJOB ON DUTY? IT MAKES NO SENSE? I'm an advocate for right to work, but employers need to realize that firing someone for no good reason gets you nowhere. That really pisses me off.

Please repost this post with left out words and correct language and I'll attempt to reply without having to just assume what you said.

I was just sort of ranting about how people fire people for stupid reasons, but they don't fire people for things that they deserve to be fired for. If an employee is at a strip club while on duty, they will be fired for going to the strip club, not for bad work ethic. The plumber situation was something that one of my favorite musicians, David Draiman, commented on Bill Maher's show.

TY.

Now let's look at your scenario. Most places of business have a delivery entrance at or near the rear of the building. Most plumbers would use said entrance to further not only be close to their work but to actually remain out of sight. I don't believe they would park their truck/van out in the public parking lot while on duty. Hence being discreet about their work. If they use a company vehicle while visiting the club off duty, most assuredly they should be fired, and justly so. When a place of business puts it's name on a business card or the side of their truck it is stating that the reputation of said company is worthy. If after a hard weeks work all the plumbers went to the club for the show, they have damaged the business by doing so, if they use a company truck. If I owened said company and were on my home from business and saw a fleet of my business trucks in the parking lot, you bet I would go right in there and fire each and everyone of them. I have posted this before in another thread, that if I had the position to fire people a lot of them would be fired if for no other reason, but; "just for practice."

People need to be not only responsible for themselves but the man who gives them that beloved pay check every 2 weeks. I am a bit old fashioned, but if I take a mans money, I give him the required work he demands for it. I worked for the same company for 30 years and retired.

If it's your own car and your boss sees you there, will anyone remember your face, and even if it was the company vehicle, would it hurt the company? I don't really think that it would. If ANYONE goes to a strip club, WHO CARES??? People buy products from Monsanto, I would much rather do business with a guy that goes to strip clubs. Going to a strip club doesn't mean that you are corrupt, sadistic, or a corperation that will destroy the earth.

Most assuredly. People care about who they hire to jobs. Should the Company trucks be parked outside of a strip joint, they will look for another company to use.

I don't really think that it would.

If ANYONE goes to a strip club, WHO CARES???
I sure as hell would, if my Company's name were displayed in any adverse condition as it would ruin my reputation as an owner.

Max, go hug a tree. In fact you need to hug a lot of trees.

Actual question: "Is this forum full of crazies?"

Max, kiddo: leave the command stuff to the guys who know at least a bit of the issue. I, for one, agree with laranger, except for the part about firing people "just for practice", which I find unworthy of immediate dismissal. Take this from a guy who owns and runs his own company, albeit being almost a "one-man show".

PS: laranger, what do "TY" and "TYIA" mean?
