Had bad drive home tonight, i knocked a young girl off her bicycle. I just didn't see her as i came round a bend on one the country lanes i use, luckly i was only going about 20mph and she wasn't hurt just had a few scratches. She assured me she was ok, just shaken up like me, i'm still shaking at the moment. I gave her lift home with the bicycle in the back. I offered to pay for any damage to the bicycle, but she said it was ok, just so glad i didn't hurt her. The more i think of it, the more i shake. We were both lucky it wasn't worse. First time i've ever hit a cyclist and i certainly never want to again. I've never been so scared before, seeing her in front on the ground, boy was i relieved for both of us that she was ok. So guys please don't make my mistake and remember cyclists and bikers, which i'm sure you do.

Wow, sorry to hear that Mart. At least she is Okay and you are too. I had the same expirience about 20 years ago. Sadly though, mine did not have a happy ending. The kid (16 y.o.) had been drinking and tried to cross a busy highway, so i was not charged with anything. I try not to think about it.

I feel with you, mart. I'm glad nobody got hurt.

A couple of years back I almost knocked a woman off her bicycle, too. Those moments stick with you for quite a while, making you rethink your driving habits.

I had been driving off our company's parking area, on a small, short side road with hedgerows on the sides. My incident happened on the intersection to the next bigger road. On the left, where I expect traffic to come from, the hedge is low enough to look over. On the right side the hedge is too tall to look over.
I was driving slow at the intersection to look for traffic. "My" bicyclist came from the right, driving on the pedestrian walk, and wanted to turn into my street. She had to break hard and bumped lightly into the front of my car's right side and started yelling at me.
She would have had the right of way, coming from the right, but she wasn't supposed to drive on the footpath. I couldn't see her at all through that hedgeway. To see her coming I would have had to drive halfway onto the intersection.
I think she was just as startled as I was. The steet I came from is mainly used by foot or by bicycle as a shortcut into the city. Cars aren't allowed to drive all the way, but it is one of two ways towards and from our parking lots.

I'm more or less back to my old habits, now. There wasn't much I could have done better anyway. I am still extra cautious at that intersection, though.

I agree, those moments get you shaking like a leaf.
Again, I'm glad nothing more serious than scars and the shocks happened.

I know what Mart is feeling right now, "What if she were badly injured" " She could have been killed!" I know the latter all too well. It took about two years to finally start to get on with my life. What keeps me sane when i do think about it is, If your drunk and riding a bike in heavy traffic, you get what you deserve. I know it sounds harsh, but i still to this day send flowers every year to the family for his grave.

I don't go as far as saying they get what they deserve, but some ask for accidents to happen. Whether they drive on the wrong side of the street, drunk, without light in the dark, ..., or all together.

I think it's comforting for the biker's family that he is not forgotten.

All but 1 of the jobs I had as a teen were at pet shops. Oddly, we could never get the Norwegian Blue parrot in. Must have been too popular after M Python. Not surprising really--very quiet, doesn't eat or drink much (or at all), but very lovely, much like a museum specimen... :p

And as for Basil Fawlty, I have learned that jumping about wildly, shaking your fist at the sky is a great way to relieve stress! (But I have a terrible fear of Canadian moose heads now ...)

I love British comedy and especially Monty Python! John Cleese played some of the funniest characters on that show. In addition to the store clerk in the "Parrott" sketch, he was the village idiot (My brain hurts!!), and the "Minister of Silly Walks". Cleese was also great in Monty Python and the Holy Grail too, which he also co-wrote. Who can forget the "Black Knight" ("It's only a scratch!!" "Come back here, I'll bite your legs off!") and that smarmy French guard ("I fart in your general direction").

Yesterday i had the most insane experience in my local supermarket. I actually got thrown out by security:eek:. There i am going down one of the isles with my shopping trolly, then a woman steps backwards just as i'm about to pass her and i hit her leg. Of cause i apologise immediately even though in my opinion it wasn't my fault, as i had right of way lol. Anyway she apologised to me and we both laughed. So i carry on and towards me in a hurry was this guy who looked a little angry. It was her boyfriend or husband as he gets closer i noticed he's got his right hand clenched to a fist. So i knew something was up and i was right. "you hit my girl you bastard!" he screams, i thought wtf! of cause by now i'm ready for him lol. He throws a poor punch at me, i avoid the punch and grab the arm so now i've got him in a armlock. Just as a security guy comes around the isle. He shouts at me to let him go, i said only when he calms down. The guys still swearing at me to let him go. Another security guy turn up and i'm now thinking, this is just getting crazy so i let him go then one of the security guys steps between me and this angry guy. Then tells us both to calm down, i was very calm because if i wasn't i would have hit back lol. So in the end i was escorted out of the supermarket. To be honest i was laughing at how stupid it was, luckly that isn't the only supermarket here lol. so the moral here guys, is be very careful with your shopping trollies and drive safe lol. Anyone else had any kind of similar crazy shopping experience? lol.:D

Sounds to me like the boyfriend is the ultimate *******. looks like anyone of the male sex would have to keep a wide area between them and the girl.

mart
08-31-2009, 08:33 AM
That guy must have had a screw loose. Guess some guys can be way over protective with their partners. Which in a way is good, but to throw a fist at a total stranger without even asking what i was doing was a bit over the top. I mean i could have just been asking her where the cereal isle was. I was fortunate, i hope no other guy talks to this poor girl:eek:. I hope i see him again one day just to ask what his problem was. Hopefully he was a local lad, so i could meet him again. I'm still actually annoyed at his stupidity.

Your right Immortal, i hope i don't bump into him again. But it does bug me as what the hell was wrong with him. I do have a violent past, which i hope will never come back. I was actually pleased with myself at how i handled it and not to lose my temper. A few years back i would have beaten him to a pulp, thankfully those days have passed. Somehow i'm able to control my anger better. I must be getting older and wiser lol.

I had a Paypal account for years till they shut it down a few years back all cause I was dumb enough to allow a friend to use it.Since after a certain time you can get a Paypal card whiuch can be use at ATMs it was cheaper to send money though them instead of using western Union and spend money sending it.
Yeah paypal is so ANAL about what can be done with your account they would shut it down in a heart beat for the dumbest things. My friend needed her Nicotine fix and had a friend send her money so she could buy cigarettes. The guy was stupid enough to put "For Cigarettes" in the header and Paypal thought I was selling Cigarettes online though them.So of course they shut it down even after they said to get in touch with them to clear up the matter.
The dumbest part is I started up another Paypal account the other week... ONLY cause I sometimes buy stuff on Ebay and almost all perferred you use Paypal to send them the money. If it wasn't for that I would have told Paypal to take the Stick out of thier arses and stop shutting down accounts over the dumbest things. Most likely they a "God like" complex like the WalMart people and think they can do as they please and people will bow down to them.

The monitor had builted in speakers so the screen could have a been a few inches wider without the speakers.I would think with a 21 inches you would have to be a hardcore gamer who wanted the extra area for thier gaming experience or someone who can see thier monitor from across the room. :D

had a quite a worrying drive home from work tonight. i leave work at 5.30pm and now it's quiet dark, normally not a problem but tonight my foot was hovering over the brake more so. Because i passed around three kids on bikes without lights, if it wasn't for one of the lads fluoresant stripes on his jacket. I might have hit him and one lad in a black jacket and black or dark blue pants i came very close to clipping him. i have noticed quite a few kids and young people just don't seem to bother with making sure they have lights or that they actually work. So if any of you guys have kids please make sure they have lights on their bikes. I have nothing against cyclist because i used cycle myself so i can appreciate what it's like cycling on a fast road or in heavy traffic, but when it comes to cyclist i always seem jinx. I've lost count the amount of times i've had cyclists turning in front of me without signaling or even looking behind. What annoys me is that i'm sure some cyclist just assume as soon as they pull out the vehicles behind will just slow down for them. But when your only just behind them you have to suddenly brake so you get the domino effect and hope you don't get hit from behind from the following car. I'm not saying all cyclist are careless, but i always seem to find ones that are. I remember seeing my Nephew overtaking a bus at a bus stop just as the bus was pulling out. How he never got hit, lady luck must have really been with him. Of cause i had very severe words with him after that kind of cycling. Sorry this is turning into a rant, i apologise to any cyclist here. I just think there are good cyclist and bad cyclist, wish i didn't keep coming across the bad ones.

I agree, mart, there are way too much reckless cyclists driving around. I once counted bikes with and without light that I passed on my way home from work. A quarter of them went without light.

A couple of years ago I was driving my car with my brother on the passenger seat and we almost hit a cyclist driving around in the night without light, wearing dark clothes. I stopped, my brother turned down his window and yelled something like "Lights on, or tired of life!" (It looses impact at translation.) That guy had his lights on within 5 seconds.

But you don't have do ride a bike to be dangerously careless. Just two days ago a pedestrian was weary of life, too: Nighttime, rainy weather, on a small street on the outskirts. One car drives towards me in the opposite direction. One car parked on my side of the road, across the street and some yards off a youth club, seemingly waiting for someone.
After I got past that waiting car someone decides to run over the street. All I saw at first was the comming car's ligts disappearing and I hit the brakes. When the person got on my side of the street, I only saw the legs of running trousers passing just a few yards in front of me.
The brightest thing on that person was the blue jeans, and that includes his brain. If I hadn't been wondering about that waiting car, I never could have braked in time to avoid hitting the runner.
In retrospect I should have stopped to ask that guy if he wanted a ticket to the hospital.

Mart, you see, other countries have their share of loonies in road traffic, too. (I might be even one of them. ;))

I'm on the road to work at 5AM and I can't count the times I'll be driving down the road and seen something dark moving donw the street.Turns out to be a cyclist wearing dark clothing and no light or anyhthing to reflect light.Lucky for me they were on the other side of the road most of the times. The few times they were on my side I was able to catch part of them under the street lights.

I'm sure you would agree it can be just as frightening for drivers. Always on the lookout for almost invisible cyclists or pedestrians in dark clothing at night. I recently hit a cyclist and wouldn't want to through that again, luckly she wasn't hurt. In my area there is certainly a lack of street lighting nowadays anyway and to make it worse most areas here have changed the streetlights to lower energy lights, which give out far less light obviously to cut the cost of electricity they use. I have heard their to also cut down on lightglare, but i think that may be an excuse. Now a few lights on some roads here are just barely a glow, which in my opinion doesn't help anyone.

...Anyone here use a large screen? or is 17in about the average most people use nowadays, just curious as what size your screens are.:)

Screen sizes are getting bigger all the time. Back in the days 20 inch iMac was the largest you could buy. Not anymore. Today, the smallest iMac has a 21.5 inch display, and the larger model has a 27 inch!

I'm feeling OK with my 20 inch display. Not everyone has the money or need to upgrade their computer all the time to the latest and greatest.

Ok if you ever fry anything on a gas cooker , don't forget about it. Like i just did tonight. I had some sausages nicely frying away, nipped back in the front room to carry on watching the snooker and the smoke alarms started sounding. Somehow i'd completely forgotten about the sausages, guess i just got too engrossed in the game. By the time i got back out into the kitchen the pan was on fire, which i managed to put out with a damp teatowel. the frying pan was ruined, but i was more concerned about the sausages which were slightly overdone lol. But i didn't panic, i popped down the local chippy, sorted!. If any you guys have smoke alarms test and check they work. Like the English tv commercials says "push the button, not your luck".;)

More good advice, We have smoke and CO detectors. We live in Wisconsin and old man winter has started to kick our butts so it was time to get out the kerosene heater for back up. You can never have too many detectors if you run one of those.

Having CO and smoke detectors running on main power has it's pros and cons. Sure, you don't have to replace batteries, but if the power somhow goes out, you loose the detectors, too.
Should a fire destroy the power cabling (or an electrical malfunction causes a short circuit and burning cables) you won't hear anything.
Most of todays fires not caused by arson are mainly caused by electric malfunctions / overheating. To rely on main power for a fire alarm (smoke or CO) doesn't appeal to me.

Thanks guys..Mom's death hadn't really hit me yet.Death usually has a delay affect on me.Its usually when you except to see them at a certain time or you thoughbt of something you wanted to share with them and realize they're not there for you to share it with then it starts to hit you.
My aunt came up today to help get mom's stuff out of the nursing home. Its has to be harder on her cause my mom(her sister) would be the fourth close family member she lost in 2 years.2 years ago my grandmother(her mom) died in June and barely 2 months later in August her youngest son who was in his 30's died. This past Summer her husband died and now my mom died.
My aunt isn't in the best of heath herself so all those deaths is taking thier toll on her.The services going to be on Monday and it will probably hit me then.
Well anyway Thanks again guys

Good point locally most of fires are caused by lighting during the summer and from fireplaces & Christmas trees during winter. My electrical power coming into the house is buried in the ground but it is not uncommon to lose power during an ice storm. With me I think my biggest exposure would be forgetting to change the batteries.

A very nice harmless old fart though.;)

Anyone ever had one of them breaking days?, like yesterday i accidently broke two mugs and three plates. Then moved on to breaking the dvd tray which i caught with my knee as i knelt down to put a disc in. I was very tempted to stay in bed today, just to save crockery lol.

A couple of months ago, while doing the breakfast dishes (after a late night shift and 3 hour sleep), I cracked like 3 mugs and 2 smaller chopps:eek:. Lol, I was banned from the dishes cleansing for a week and obviously had to replace them all. More recently, I destroyed the shaft of my new 30-kg (63 lb) scale. Lucky the machine itself took no damage, or I would have faced a real problem.:o

I'm actually banned from washing-up at my sisters, she can't afford to keep replacing the plates lol. I've had a few smashing times in her kitchen in the past, but have always replaced anything in there i break. This is actually true, the only times i'm clumsy is when i'm carrying plates or cups. You can almost guarantee i'll drop something. Guess it's one way to get out of doing washing-up.:D

Confirmed. I'll be a dad in seven months from now. So, I'll have to work like twice as much as I have been as of late; therefore, I won't be able to visit the forum as often, let alone post.

Well, that said, try to have a nice time from now on. No, no cries please. We'll be OK.

PS: Probably won't become a husband that soon.

Rrrr! That story gets even ME mad at that coach!

When school is canceled due to bad weather, it's done with very good reason. The accident sadly proofs it. It's not the coaches place to override that decision.

I'm sorry for the families and friends of the three victims, including Heather and Sarah.

Sorry to hear about the players.Anoree was right when school is cancelled due to bad weather it was done for a reason and it means anything connected to school including sports.Me personally I would have rake the coach over the coals and chew his *** to the bone.

Speaking of bad weather here in North Central Texas we had record breaking snow fall the last 24 hrs. Offically DFW airport reported 12.5" from yesterday morning till this morning.a few areas farther south had reported 14".

I read that in the newspaper today and the school officials trying to down play it saying the software was there to locate thier laptops in case they were ever lost or stolen and they had turn it off and will only turn it back on with written permission.Yeah right what parents will allow anyone to turn the software back on knowing that someone is probably peeking at thier underage daughters while they were undressed. When the students found out what was going on they end up putting tape over the webcams and mic.

Wtf is that all about!, if i had a daughter or son i certainly wouldn't want anyone secretly watching them via a web cam. That sounds very seedy and sick and i would rip that cam out. Does sound like these girls maybe beyond help Missy. Perhaps a short spell in the services might straighten these girl out.

I had a similar experience when i worked for a builder contractor. We were sent to this local youth hostel for boys to do some building repairs and the language some of these boy were coming out with was unbelievable. Their average age was between 14 to 18, we were never attacked but the abuse we got was so unreal and we never even gave them the to cause to swear at us. I couldn't even repeat any of their verbal abuse here. Luckly we were all able to keep our cool and not retaliate because obviously that would only make matters worse. boy were we glad when we'd finished that place lol.

Oh I messed up last night, I was getting my bag out of the van and bumped the door shut with my side and I didn't realise Angie was behind me and shut her hand in the door, she has 3 broken fingers. I feel so bad about it. They had to fly her home last night and fly in a replacement. She will be out for about 4 weeks. Ms Parker is making her take a week off then will find her office work till she can come back out with us. And Tigger has a horific cough that he cant get rid of, Amanda went to get him somthing for it so he can get some sleep tonight. This week is starting out on a bad note.:(

Looks exactly like him but with gray hair. LOL!:D

Not surprisingly, this creep is from my hometown of Seattle. Unbelievable. How many serial killers have passed through here? Ted Bundy, the D.C. Snipers, the Green River killer, and now this guy.
